Modiphius Announces Official Discworld Board Games Will Be Available

Modiphius Entertainment's first official Discworld board games will be available for pre-order. Specifically, two tabletop adaptations based on the acclaimed sci-fi fantasy book series by literary icon Terry Pratchett will be coming soon to their webstore.

The Discworld Board Games Pre-Order Announcement

According to a press release, the two official Discworld board games are eclectic experiences centered on characters or elements of Pratchett's books. As for which characters and elements Modiphius chose to adapt, a key factor was a survey of Discworld fans conducted in February 2024 when the deal between the company and Pratchett's estate was made public.

The first of these games is simply titled Kill Sam Vimes, designed by Dom Westerland. As the title implies, it is a cooperative strategy game. 2-6 players work together as trainee assassins with one goal: kill Commander Sir Samuel Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. Players will take turns maneuvering through the city, avoiding Vimes' traps, and outscoring their rivals. Whoever has the most points wins.

If you pre-order Kill Sam Vimes, a special promo back will be added at no additional charge. This promo pack contains four additional assassin cards, each with a unique ability.

The second official Discworld board game for pre-order is Readers Digested. It is a 2-4 player game where you take on the role of assistant librarians at Unseen University during reading week. Players must work together to calm the panicked wizards of the university, restore order, and escort students to their exams.

The game experience is a reimagining of Reiner Knizia's Blue Moon City with a Discworld twist. The game will be available in two versions. One is a standard edition of the game. The other is a deluxe edition with upgraded components and rules for solo play. In addition, pre-orders of the game will include a unique game tile at no additional cost.

Both Kill Sam Vimes and Readers Digested will be available for pre-order on August 20, 2026.
