Mistborn fans are getting the chance to visit their favorite fantasy setting courtesy of the next major Cosmere release. Gamers can now pre-order their very own Starter Set and other products from the upcoming Cosmere RPG: Mistborn release.
While the Cosmere RPG has provided players with a variety of settings based on the works of author Brandon Sanderson, the November 4 release of Cosmere RPG: Mistborn will mark the first time that the game has offered them the chance to step into the world of Mistborn.
Cosmere RPG: Mistborn Is Perfect for Brandon Sanderson Fans
The now sprawling Mistborn franchise began with Brandon Sanderson's series of epic fantasy novels, starting with The Final Empire in 2006. The Final Empire was followed by The Well of Ascension and The Hero of Ages over the next two years. In 2011, Sanderson revisited the series for The Alloy of Law, which was followed by three more novels, Shadows of Self, The Bands of Mourning, and The Lost Metal, the latter of which made its way into stores in 2022.
Set in a dark, fantastical world where the hero once prophesied to save the realm failed to triumph over the forces of evil, Mistborn has been widely lauded by readers and critics alike. Mistborn heavily features a now iconic magic system revolving around three distinct disciplines, which have themselves become defining features of the various board and card game adaptations that have been released over the years.
Unfortunately, fans have yet to see a proper film or television adaptation of Mistborn, although plenty of attempts at such a production have been made. Sanderson himself optioned the rights to Mistborn to Paloppa Pictures LLC back in 2011, with the rights to the entire Cosmere universe being picked up by DMG Entertainment in 2016. As of 2026, Apple TV owns the rights to Mistborn in television and film, with plans for a series of features, the first of which Sanderson has already finished in terms of screenplay.

The story of Mistborn begins in the Final Empire, a society on the brink of collapse. Humanity toils in service to the Lord Ruler, his favored nobles, and the fanatical Steel Ministry. As the world of Scadrial faces a final cataclysm, the servants of Ruin and Preservation will decide its people’s fate.
The game description continues, "Centuries after the fall of the Final Empire, an age of peace comes to an end. The second era of Scadrial brings new frontiers and new wonders, from railways and automobiles to airships and skyscrapers. But upheaval looms as the servants of a new god vie for control of the world."
Cosmere RPG: Mistborn from Brotherwise Games goes on sale November 4.
