Naoki Hamaguchi has been consumed with the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy for quite some time. Recently, he said that after completing the trilogy, he would like to move on to another RPG. Final Fantasy 7: Revelation, set for 2027, will be the end of the trilogy. Now, Hamaguchi has revealed that his studio is working on Square Enix‘s Kingdom Hearts 4. That title is also scheduled for 2027.

Naoki Hamaguchi Discusses Kingdom Hearts 4 and FF7 Adaptation
Speaking to Deadline, Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed that the next entry in the Kingdom Hearts series is under his watch as both the final game in the Final Fantasy 7 trilogy and the next Kingdom Hearts release are in development at his studio.
In terms of Square Enix and 2027, our President, Takashi Kiryu, says that next year is the big fight back for us, where everything turns around. And obviously, between Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Kingdom Hearts IV, those are massive titles that are going to push that. And both are being developed in my own studio, Creative Studio 1. So yeah, I’m really pumped up now for that. That’s really all on my watch now, so I’m going to be the guy who’s pushing all that forward.
Naoki Hamaguchi is also asked about the potential to adapt Final Fantasy 7 for the screen, similar to how Kingdom Hearts is being adapted into an anime for Disney+. Hamaguchi says those adaptations are always under discussion. Of course, Final Fantasy 7 was adapted into an animated movie in the early 2000s with the release of Advent Children 20 years ago.

Across all of the Final Fantasy properties and IPs, we’re always looking for the best way to bring them to the audience and for opportunities like this with them. So yeah, it’s definitely a possibility. We want to be very proactive in looking into opportunities like that.
