The big finish of the Final Fantasy VII R trilogy — Final Fantasy VII Revelation — is set to release next year and what’s more, it’s getting a physical version across the board, but there’s a noticeable catch that is becoming far too common.
As shown on Square Enix’s site and reported by Eurogamer, Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s physical version will come packaged with a disc, but you’ll still need an internet connection to download, akin to something like Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
It’s not clear if the disc will just act as a key to download the whole game or if it’s a matter of some of the game will be on the disc while the rest is relegated to a download. What we do know is the Nintendo Switch 2 version is a whopping 130GB, and often the Switch version is optimized to be less, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the PlayStation and Xbox versions are 160GB+.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches to PS5, PC, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 8. 2027.
