Final Fantasy VII Revelation On PS5 Will Ship On Disc With Digital Download

It was recently revealed that the upcoming game, Final Fantasy VII Revelation, will be getting a physical release at launch, but there is a catch.

The news (via PSU) shares that the game will come with one disc in the box, and will have a requirement of a digital download in order to have all the additional game data. You cannot play the game on disc without this download.

This is a big step down from the previous game in the series, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, that shipped on two discs in the box and did not require a download. At the very least, Square Enix is still supporting physical media even if it’s not considered perfect.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation is launching on April 8, 2027, and there is a lot of hype surrounding it after its recent reveal, also sharing that the game will be accompanied by two story expansions that will arrive in the months after launch.

The game is expected to exceed 130GB of storage, as the Nintendo Switch 2 version is that exact staggering file size, but it would be no surprise if the game has an even higher amount of storage based on the advanced tech found in the PS5 that is not in the Switch 2. It is possible high resolution textures and other factors could make the size even bigger on PS5.

It was even revealed several weeks ago that game director, Naoki Hamaguchi, shared he wanted to ship the game with a disc version. It seems he followed through on his promise, and although it requires some extra attention, the push for a physical release still shows Hamaguchi understands the audiences well.

The release of Final Fantasy VII Revelation is getting closer, and owners of PS5 consoles with a disc drive will be able to own it even though it isn’t an ideal scenario. Disc owners should be prepared for a lengthy download and the requirement of an internet connection as well in order to experience the epic finale.
