Square Enix has confirmed that the free subscription period for Final Fantasy XIV on Nintendo Switch 2 ends Monday, September 7 at 11:59 p.m. in each region. The free period was introduced to help ensure server stability.
Players who register the Starter Edition or Complete Edition will then receive a 30-day free play period beginning Tuesday, September 8. Once that period ends, a subscription fee will be required to continue playing on Nintendo Switch 2.

A separate subscription is required for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, even for players with an active subscription on another platform. However, players with an active FFXIV subscription elsewhere can purchase the Nintendo Switch 2 subscription at half price through the Nintendo Switch 2 Subscription Discount. The discount is unavailable while a 30-day free play period remains active on another platform.

Square Enix also says a known issue is preventing the launcher from redirecting players to the Nintendo eShop purchase screen for FFXIV Coins. The issue is scheduled to be resolved with Patch 7.56 on September 8. Until then, players can press the + button on Final Fantasy XIV from the console HOME menu and navigate through Software Information, Nintendo eShop, and In-Game Items to purchase coins manually.
